Both are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 19 through 26, Oct. 28, and Oct. 30 through Nov. 1. On Tuesday, Oct. 27, and Thursday, Oct. 29, hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. There is no early voting on Monday, Nov. 2.

Voting by absentee ballot

Connecticut voters no longer need an excuse to vote by absentee ballot, according to the Secretary of the State. You apply first, then receive a ballot by mail, fill it out, sign the envelope and return it. Applications are available at MyVote.CT.gov or from the New Haven City Clerk’s office, which handles absentee ballots. City Clerk Michael Smart’s office is at 200 Orange St.

Returned ballots, whether by mail, official drop box or in person, must reach the clerk by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3. Under state law, only you, certain family members, a designee caring for you if you are ill or disabled, a police officer or a registrar may return your ballot.

A special election for alder is set for Tuesday, Nov. 10, to fill the seat left vacant when Alder Evette Hamilton resigned effective Sept. 30, according to a letter from the Registrars of Voters. Voting is at the Firehouse, 120 Ellsworth Ave. Early voting for that race runs Nov. 5 through Nov. 8, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at City Hall and SCSU’s Wintergreen Building.
